Ngā Maunga Tōhora | The Whale Mountains is a bi-lingual picture book in te reo Māori and English, telling the Ngā Pōtiki pūrākau of the three whales. This beautiful book tells of how the maunga in the area came to be. The book aims to introduce new generations of Tauranga Moana tamariki to the history of the rohe, including some of the local kai to be found in the sea.
'At the base of Mangatawa and opposite Mangatawa Marae is the fresh water spring. The name of the spring is called Te Waiū of te Tohorā. At times the water flows milky white, and we remember the pod of whales that beached at Rangataua.'
