A domestic electric iron with metal base and curved metal handle centre top. A wooden handle is secured to this. A metal electric adapter with double prongs is at the base. Iron comes with rubber coated electric cord with black bakelite fittings.
The first electric iron was patented in 1882 when electricity was widely available in the home. The electric iron replaced other types of irons and the steam iron was introduced. Electric irons were faster to heat, cleaner and relatively cheap.
