A wooden school desk and chair. The desk has a groove for a dip pen and an ink well insert. The lid of the desk lifts to reveal storage space.

School desks of this type were used in New Zealand at the end of the 19th Century into the 20th Century. The space inside the desk was known as a 'cubbyhole'.
